Director Training
« on: December 04, 2009, 07:30:51 AM »

In 2009, we had some key moments of aid from experienced directors, such as from Eli (a.k.a. Cheesecake) and Craig G.  Mike K. announced for a few heats later in the season.  As the year progressed, I almost got all the steps down to a science, starting from my 1-day training course from Chicago Kenji at Strictly RC.

If anyone is interested in learning some of the race-day setup or race directing duties, there is an open door there.  I am concerned if I am unable to perform the duties, then there might be a hiccup in the program.  Some days that I know I will be out of town later in the year cause me to hesitate to schedule a race for that day.  That is not good.  I will try to document my steps in a thread here, but there is nothing like actually trying it out.  As we move into the next season, think about what steps you might be interested in.  We can have a greater depth in out ranks if a few folks are able to handle any given task.

I would like to learn the race director operations. A few more guys should volunteer for this also so that you can take more breaks Bob.

That's great!  I wasn't sure if anyone would want to touch it.  I should write down some of the steps here anyway -- imagine what I might forget by springtime Huh?.  I still enjoy directing, but who knows when something will come up.

Running the race software is probably one of the major topics.  There are free demo versions of the AlyCat software available as on-line downloads (AlyCat)/downloads page.

Maybe you could have a "race director class" on a practice day so we could practice directing races.

I like that idea.  I would like to learn the Alycat system as well.

So would I Grin.

I need to write up a guideline sheet or something.  Once I get in the mood, I'll start that here.

I would be interested, if I still have my vehicles by that time. I was suppose to get a system from Criag but it hasen't happend yet. I kind of know how to use the Robitronic beginer version but it is useless if evryone has I-lap or AMB transponders. Plus I have to buy a seperate program to run any real races with the Robitronic system.

Man, that would be great.  Could you imagine if we could even have shifts sometimes.  Like someone runs the first half of the day and some the second half.  Or every other round, trade off.  At least being able to do that would be great if someone was in a pinch.

I would probably be like you when you started, not very vocal due to lack of experience. Either way it would be a good experience.

I started that way, but now I feel like I talk all the time and barely have a chance to say everything.

So Bob, have you been thinking about when this director training would be?
